Windows 10 Mobile TP Build 10136 includes app by app back-up settings

Image
Windows Phone 8.1 introduced OneDrive back-ups for app settings, but it has always been difficult to know exactly which apps are backing up content and to control the transfer when those settings may be causing issues. In Windows 10 Mobile TP Build 10136 users are able to see exactly which apps are backing up content, and will also be able to switch off the back-up of content from those apps individually. The addition is just another example of the increasing polish we are seeing with Windows 10 Mobile, as it rushes to be ready for release in the September/October time frame. Source: WMPU

Background downloading will come to the Edge browser in W10 Mobile, but not at the first release

Image
Microsoft’s Edge browser is a universal app which promise to deliver a much improved and more compatible browsing experience on Windows 10 Mobile, but what about features we are used to on the desktop, such as being able to download in the background?  Reader Mayur Prayag was concerned whether the new Edge browser will support background downloading, and asked Ade Bateman, the Program Manager for the browser on twitter.  He responded that Microsoft was working on the feature, but that it may not make it to the initial release.  Microsoft has however said they intend to release frequent updates to the app, so even if its not there initially, its good to know it is on its way.

Updated: Lumia Camera Beta Update brings Lumia Camera 5 to more devices.

Image
Microsoft’s Lumia Camera Beta app has just received an update in the store bumping it up to version 2015.616.1343.1737.  Here’s what’s new from the changelog: – Access to Office lens from settings menu – Pro settings remembered after restarting the app – General performance improvements and bug fixes  Aside from the big fixes, the biggest fix here is the integration of Office Lens into the quick settings menu. Allowing users quick access to it without needing to drill into the hidden lenses menu. The new Beta app is designed to allow users to test out features that will eventually trickle down to the main Lumia Camera app. It is therefore only available for devices which support Lumia Camera 5 such as the 930, 640 and 640XL(excluding the Lumia 830).  Update: It appears the update actually now adds support for multiple devices with the 830, 730 and 1020 among others now being ,able to download this app.

Here are the known issues on Windows 10 Mobile Build 10136

Image
Microsoft has released Windows 10 Mobile Build 10136. The latest build introduces some major new additions. However, as expected, there are a few known issues on the latest build. Here’s a list of the known issues on Build 10136: *.After upgrading, you will still see duplicate tiles for apps like Search and Phone under All Apps. *.If you have too many PIN unlock attempts, you’ll see the “enter A1B2C3” reset experience. However, there is an issue in this build where after you enter the code you won’t see the PIN pad. The workaround is to press Emergency Call after entering the code, then press Back and you’ll be able to enter your PIN. *.We recommend disabling the double-tap-to-wake feature on some Lumia devices by going to the Settings app then Extras > Touch > Wake to prevent any accidental PIN unlock attempts. *.There is an issue that may cause Skype not to work after upgrade. The best workaround is to uninstall Skype on Windows Phone 8.1 *before* you upgrade to this

Here’s what's new on Windows 10 Mobile Build 10136

Image
Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10136 for Fast ring Insiders. It includes a handful of new features, here’s the full list: Tons of fit and finish changes: There are far too many subtle changes in the UX to cover. You’ll notice some obvious ones right away, like the PIN pad is now transparent and slides up over your Lock screen image instead of displacing it. You’ll see many changes to fonts, icons, layout, etc. and the UX will feel more complete than what you used in 10080. We’re doing a lot of refinement to the UX right now and you should see more of that work in the next build we flight. Improvements to Cortana: Cortana’s experience has gone through a rich set of improvements and is now very close to our final design. We’ve made adjustments to cards in Cortana’s homepage and in the hamburger menu. We listened to feedback from Windows Insiders and added the dark theme colors to Cortana’s UI to make our UI more cohesive with the rest of the OS. Tracking of you

Skype integrated to Windows 10 Mobile Messaging, Calling & Video coming later this year

Image
While we have heard multiple times from Microsoft that Skype will be integrated to messaging and calling apps on Windows 10 Mobile apart from video call integration, Microsoft has yet to push Skype integration in any of the preview builds. The above screenshot that has been taken from an official slide though gives us some idea about how Skype will be integrated to the Windows 10 Mobile.  Now Zdnet has been able to get answers from Skype team about Skype’s awaited integration to Windows 10and there are some interesting revelations. It seems there will be no standalone Skype app on Windows 10, but the app will be baked into universal Messaging, Calling & Video apps. The Skype integration is coming later this year most probably with the final Windows 10 Build.  Q: Why couldn’t Microsoft evolve the existing Modern skype app into a Universal Windows Skype app — instead of and/or in addition to launching a bunch of standalone, separate Skype apps?  A:With Windows 10 we want

Windows 10 Mobile to launch in late September, reveals a leak.

Image
Microsoft had made it clear that Windows 10 Mobile will be released sometime after the launch of Windows 10. While Microsoft later announced that Windows 10 will launch officially on 29th July there were no words about Windows 10 Mobile launch date. But now a leaked slide shows that Microsoft will make Windows 10 Mobile SKUs available to partners by late Q3, 2015.  This is inline with tip we received from our sources that Microsoft has been making efforts to deliver Windows 10 Mobile earlier than the expected end of the year timeline.Though once pushed to OEMs, it may still take sometime for the new devices to go through proper testing. So, while we may see some new device announcements in August-September, devices running the final build may start coming to market from October.

A new Lumia mid-ranger under testing in India, reveal Zauba data

Image
More info comes to light about the upcoming Lumia range!! We had reported about four Lumia devices that can make their way to market comprising of two flagships and two high-end mid-rangers. But it seems Microsoft has more up its sleeve as we later found RM-1127 with 4.7 inch display in both Dual-Sim and Single Sim variants in Zauba data and it looks like a device targeted to lower mid-range going by the price indicated in the entries.  Now a new device also seems under testing as revealed by Zauba data. The device’s Dual-Sim variants have arrived for testing and the pricing quoted in the entries suggest a mid-ranger that can be priced slightly higher than Lumia 640 XLin range. So it is bit difficult to tell what it will be. It may be Lumia 740 or Lumia 740XL Depending upon the display size that is not known yet.

Rumour : The Lumia 940XL will have an iris scanner according to evleaks

Image
Microsoft’s promised flagship devices, referred to for convenience as the Lumia 940 and 940XL codenamed Talkman and Cityman have been the subject of rumours which seemed outlandish when initially leaked, but have now become more and more plausible as the months passed on.  In this latest round of leaks, reputable leaker EVleaks has just tweeted that the Lumia Cityman (940XL), will not have a fingerprint scanner but will instead have an iris scanner for biometric authentication. presumably using the new Windows Hello system that Microsoft will debut in Windows 10.  Attentive readers will remember the original Fudzilla leaks of the next Microsoft flagship having an Iris Scanner and being dockable which we dismissed out of hand as being implausible due to the mention of technologies which sounded like fantasy and wishful thinking at the time. Now it seems like this may actually be happening.  Bear in mind that no matter how accurate this latest rumour is at the time of posting

Lumia sales triple in Pakistan, led by the Lumia 535

Image
While things are not going too well in USA, Windows Phones are seeing good growth in the emerging markets of the world, particularly in Asia, according to Patrick Mercanton, head of marketing for Near-East, North Africa, Levant and Emerging Asia for Microsoft Mobile Devices. In an interview with The News he noted that sales of Lumia devices in Pakistan tripled in Q1 2015 vs Q4 2014, and that Windows Phones now held the second position ahead of iOS. “Considering our primary goal is to enhance the growth of the Windows Phone ecosystem through Lumia smartphone activations, it certainly is a great achievement for us and showcases the appetite in Pakistan for a third smartphone ecosystem other than Android and iOS” he said. He also confirmed that Microsoft Mobile with its Nokia feature phones still held more than half the feature phone market in Pakistan, and expected this would help Microsoft’s Windows Phone business when these users upgraded. He suggested the tripling of Lumia smartphone

We got many questions regarding availability of Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 update for different markets after Microsoft announced that a new GDR2 build is rolling out to Lumia 640,Lumia 735,Lumia 830 & Lumia 640 XL. Good news is that the software update trackers for Lumia devices have been updated with GDR2 build 8.10.15148.160 roll-out info for the above four devices.  It seems while Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL devices are getting the update in almost all the regions now, Lumia 830 and Lumia 735 have the update rolled out to only selected variants in Asian and European markets.

Windows 10 Mobile Build 10127 leaks in a video. Microsoft “closing in” on a good build to share  Two Windows 10 Mobilenews here!!Windows 10 MobileBuild 10127 has leaked in a video and here are some of the new features or changes.  The most visible change is in the way settings are now displayed in landscape mode. It actually resembles the Windows 10 Desktop UI in landscape mode. You can now use print to PDF option. Some settings like Speech have moved. Maps has a new icon. Alarms app has a transparent Tile in Build 10127.  But apart from these, there are not many big changes from the recent preview build 10080and most of other changes are minor in nature or bug fixes. That brings us to question of whether Microsoft is trying to stabilize even Windows 10 Mobile by focusing on polish and stability rather than new features.  Update:  Bad news first! Microsoft has just revealed that Phones Build 10134 will not be pushed to Windows Insiders due to a upgrade bug. Now good news!! Se
