Playing around with mobile camera lenses
MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY: WORKING WITH LENSES
You may have seen many professional photographers using various lens attachments with their DSLRs. Such attachments help them capture excellent shots. And not much people know but lens attachment is also available for mobile cameras. Generally three lens attachments are present for mobile cameras namely fish-eye lens, wide angle lens and macro lens. There are telescopic lens available but are mainly sold separately. These lenses can be easily bought online or in any mobile store. The prices aren't too high and will be an excellent addition to your camera. They are provided with a screw fix and a spring clip to attach the lens to your camera lens.
DIY: Macro lens
The macro lens is the most interesting lens of all. Macro photography is a whole new world where you take close up shots to produce some amazing and interesting clicks. And the best part is macro lens can be created by oneself at home if proper stuff is available. Some household items from which a macro lens can be extracted are:
1) An old dvd player: If you have any old useless dvd player at your deposit you can have your super macro lens. Just open the casing and carefully take out the lens present below the dvd tray. Super macro lens are way more powerful than normal macro lens providing almost 15x magnification. The pic below is the tip/nib of a regular ball point pen taken from the lens of a dvd player attached to my phone's camera.
2. Lens of a laser pointer: Surprisingly even a laser pointer has macro lens. All you got to do is find any useless laser, open it up and use that lens.
3. A torchlight with biconvex glass front: If you have a torchlight with a biconvex glass at front you're in luck. This glass serves as an excellent macro lens.
Now creativity kicks in when attaching these lens to the camera. Generally a transparent tape is used to hold the lens in front of the camera lens. But you can use anything that helps and makes clicking comfortable. But a steady hand is most for macro photography or you can use a tripod stand for most cases.
Happy clicking!!
